Floyd's Perspective...

Mind, Time and Passion... The Keys to Success

Over four decades ago, as a young salesman just learning what this thing called success was all about, I learned that 20% were earning 80% of the money.  I learned that only 5% at age 65 end up financially independent.  I also noticed, that only a small percentage of the agents were at the level that I wanted to be.  It was then that I purchased a series of books entitled Successful Achievement.  
                                                                           
One of the first things the series taught me was that there are 36 characteristics of a successful person.  “Oh my God!” I said, “You mean I have to develop 36 characteristics if I want to become successful?    I might as well give up now!”  After all, not even Superman had all of those traits or the strength to develop them. 
 
So, I began looking around, watching those accomplished professionals that I admired and realized she didn’t have this or he didn’t have that.  Then it hit me like a ton of bricks.  I knew that I didn’t need to develop 36 characteristics to be successful, just three and they’ve served me well throughout the years.  They are:  Mind, Time and Passion.   I thought about using the word “enthusiasm” instead, but thought “passion” would capture your attention more!
 
Let’s begin with “Mind.”  Most people are negative thinkers.  Always “stinkin thinking”  as my big brother Zig would say.  When asked “Why don’t you achieve this award?” They respond, “I can’t.” “I can’t” seems to ALWAYS be their response of choice to almost any tough question.  Is it yours?  I hope not.  You won’t find it on the shelf at the market but success comes in CANS.  It really does.  Success comes from telling yourself that you can accomplish anything that you want to.  Sounds way too simple, doesn’t it?  Let me prove it to you. 
                                                              
Dr. Maxwell Maltz, the author of Psyco-Cybrenetics discovered that we have two minds, the conscious and the sub-conscious.  The sub-conscious is the mind that holds all our thoughts and experiences.  Whatever we hear, see, touch, smell, taste or hear (whether from ourselves or others) settles into our sub-conscious and stays there.  It directs our consciousness (the conscious mind) to direct our activities.  Paraphrased:  If our sub-conscious tells our conscious we cannot do something, we don’t.  Simplified:  In the words of Henry Ford, “If you think you can or if you think you can’t--you’re right.”
 
The good news is that Dr. Maltz proved that we can control what our sub-conscious mind directs us to do by repetitively putting in positive thoughts, words and actions.  It all begins with the words we say to ourselves and others.  Frank Outlaw said it best, “Watch your words, they become your thoughts. Watch your thoughts, they become your actions.  Watch your actions, they become your habits.  Watch your habits for they will become your destiny.”
 
So if you seek to have more successes—you’ll need to have a more positive mindset.  Put the positive thoughts in such as:   “I CAN GET THIS OFFER ACCEPTED!  I DO HAVE THE DRIVE AND FORTITUDE TO SUCCEED!  I DON’T LET ADVERSITIES SLOW ME DOWN!”
 
Now, I’m not saying you have to overdo it.  I am simply saying that if you get in the habit of putting the right thoughts and actions into your sub-conscious mind repeatedly you will find yourself performing in the manner which will bring you greater rewards.   In some cases, much greater than you ever imagined. 
 
Here is an affirmation that changed my life:  “I will always be guided to do and say the things that contribute to my success.  Anything that happens--happens in my best interest.”

Soft Market Selling Tips

Bring a Little, Save a Little...... 
 
When the going gets tough - the tough get -- SMARTER.  To thrive in this economy you need to do two things better and more often than ever:  Bring in a little more and save a little more. 
 
We wanted to do something a little different .  In the coming months, we will present ways in which you can do just that.  Bring in -- and save--a little more.   
 
BRING:  What if you started negotiating a higher commission for those hard-to-sell properties?  A 1% increase on a $200,000 with a 50/50 co-broke and a standard office split - that would mean an extra $500 in your pocket.  Do that twice a year and you've earned an additional $1000! 
 
SAVE:  Now, what if you took that $1000 and put it towards your mortgage or paying off a credit card?  You'd reduce your debt and save on paying those interest fees!  Even if you just put it in your "slush fund" - you'd be up $1000. 
 
Bring in a little more--save a little more.  It's time.

The Floyd Wickman Team Platinum Circle Trainers were honored to spend the day with gifted Speaker Zig Ziglar...
 
Floyd traveled to Dallas recently to present a personal remembrance and gifts to his mentor of 30 years and fellow Speaking Hall of Famer, ZigZiglar.
 
Accompanying him on the trip were Floyd Wickman Team members: Floyd Wickman, Jr., Steve Linn, Mike Pallin, Steven Poscente, Mary Johnson, Sheldon Spiegel, Michael Valenti, Cy Cawthorn and Gary Carpenter.

One of the gifts Floyd presented to Zig was a hand-bound book of the Eighteen Lessons and advice Zig has imparted to Floyd over the years of their mentoring relationship, with hand-written notes from Floyd and the team on the significance of each.

Zig, accompanied by Jeanne, his wife of 62 years, made a point to repeat his famous phrase, "You can have everything in life you want, if you help enough other people get what they want."   
 
It was a trip to remember for a lifetime!  Here's to you, Zig Ziglar!
