The Positive Power of People By Sales Speaker and Trainer Floyd Wickman
Truth be told, I've never met a truly successful salesperson, (or entrepreneur, business owner or anyone for that matter) that did it all alone. And even if someone did? That would be a lonely ride to the top, don’t you think?
As I head into our quarterly meeting this weekend I am struck by the true power and potential of the people we surround ourselves with in life. For me, the “teamwork” truly does make the “dream work.” And I know that is felt by so many of the successful folks I've had the privilege of knowing and working with throughout my life. If what you would like is to create long-term, sustainable, repeatable success? Don’t close yourself off. Go the opposite direction. Invite talented, creative, career-boosting, life affirming people into your life and together – WOW. There won’t be anything you can’t accomplish.
Start with family. You know, those folks who’ve stuck with you when deals went south, days got long and clients were less than cooperative. Know this, people are much more willing to stick it out through the tough times and support you through long hours and busy schedules if you make them PART OF THE PROCESS. Make sure THEIR goals are included in YOUR GOALS. That you’re COMMUNICATING effectively and consistently so no one ever feels out of the loop. And work that SMART Week so that you can see, at a glance, when life is WAY out of balance and adjust your time management accordingly. (All work and no play makes for a very unhappy family and a not-at-their-best competitor!)
Add in friends. As important as it is to work hard, build skills, prospect, present, close, create and keep those plates spinning, all of us need to blow off a little steam once in a while. To connect with like-minded people who have our backs, our best interests at heart and make us laugh. Be sure in your climb to the top that you’re not leaving anyone important behind. Because truly, the long and short of it is—it is your friends and family who will make those milestones and memories extraordinary.
Partnerships. Create powerful partnerships along the way. From becoming part of a mentor group such as our R Squared network, a networking organization or connect with talented sales professionals to create an integrity partnership – these relationships are powerful foundation builders for continued success. They help to keep you going, develop new skills, ensure that you’re on track, share ideas, form alliances and realize much bigger goals than you could EVER accomplish on your own. There is so much power in teamwork!
And know this -- I hope you’ll count on me and our team as part of your network too! There’s nothing we like to do better than to help salespeople succeed!
Ready to take things to the next level? Don’t even think of ‘going it alone!’ Surround yourself with great, powerful and POSITIVE people and together you’ll accomplish so much more.
Oh, and those Negative Neds and Debbie Downers of the world? Leave them in your wake. You’ve got too much to do, too far to go and too much going for you to bring them along. You, your career, your family, friends and partners all deserve better!
