How to Change Your Thinking and Get Listings

Apr 14, 2021

"Watch your thoughts, they become words; watch your words, they become actions; watch your actions, they become habits; watch your habits, they become character; watch your character, for it becomes your destiny."

That is a quote from Bishop John Beckwith (1830-1890), and Floyd has reminded us many times to watch our thoughts.

In Dr. Caroline Leaf's brilliant book, Switch On Your Brain, she states, "One of the most exciting features of frontal lobes is how they enable us to stand outside of ourselves and observe our own thinking." It seems we actually can "watch" our thoughts.

If that's true, why do so many people end up saying things they regret? Anyone who has ever said something unforgivably hurtful has asked themselves, "What was I thinking?

While we have this unique ability to observe our thoughts, understand them and choose which to ones to express, we don't always use it. Sometimes the heat of the moment overrules the brain. Sometimes we just "mindlessly" repeat things we have heard. When we're learning dialogue, repetition is good. It is the mother of skill.

Lately I have been hearing something over and over that is based on fear and not facts. Have you heard this lately? "There's nothing to show my buyers." "We are out of listings!" "I have people ready to list but there's nothing for them to buy." Stop saying that.

THE TRUTH IS THERE ARE OVER ONE MILLION LISTINGS ON THE MARKET TODAY. AND THE REST OF THE HOUSES IN NORTH AMERICA HAVEN'T DISAPPEARED. THEY ARE STILL THERE.

Instead of sitting by the computer waiting for someone else to put a new listing into your MLS, change your thinking and stop saying there are no listings. Go out and find your buyer something to buy. Find your seller something to buy and get their house on the market.

Start saying - There is a world of opportunity waiting out there. How many homeowners have you asked - "What would someone have to offer you to consider selling?"
