What’s Your Morning Routine? A Simple Habit That Helps Real Estate Agents Succeed

May 07, 2026

If you’re doing your SMART Week regularly, you have built the habit of scheduling your time – with room for a personal life and a weekly prospecting strategy.  Great.

Now, let’s take it a step further.

What’s your morning routine?

You have one, for sure…whether it’s been consciously chosen or not.

Perhaps you hit the snooze button only a certain number of times before getting up.  Or maybe you always eat within 15 minutes of arising.  Do you head to the gym after brushing your teeth?  That’s a routine.

Would you consider improving it?

Let’s start by asking what the purpose of a morning routine could be.  While our coaching clients know that “Train the Brain” is an assignment, it’s probably easy to forget why Floyd Wickman felt so strongly about continued vigilance toward our thoughts. He knew we needed a safeguard against the negative forces that can sabotage our journey to success and happiness.

What if you installed an armor-plated resistance field around your mind?

You would be more likely to maintain an optimistic attitude when hearing bad news.

You would stay “positive” and draw more positive experiences your direction.

You would be happier, and when you’re happy, the people around you are more likely to be happy.

And, you’d earn more.

That’s why it’s so important to start each day working on your interior thoughts…taking control of them before the “world” gets ahold of you.

Starting the day with the “right thoughts” takes diligence, but it doesn’t have to take a lot of time.

Start small.  Before getting out of bed, or as you pour that first cup of coffee, list 5 things you are grateful for.  Then think of 5 people who could use healing, and send them thoughts and/or prayers.

That’s it.

The beginning of a daily routine that puts things in proper perspective.  My personal routine has a few more working parts including a written prayer list, a short reading to inspire me, silence and journaling.  But the essence is to create positivity, and the foundation is built with gratitude and love.

Floyd was my teacher and mentor for decades.  He often referenced the books he’d read that affected his thinking the most.  You might consider reading them, too, as most are “classics” and easily available.  Just a couple paragraphs each morning would get you started.  If you’re interested in a list of his favorite titles (perhaps I should say a booklist of those messages that inspired and changed his thinking from failure to greatness), then click here.

You already have a routine.

Take one action today to improve it!

PS. Here's a video from our daily video series in 2020 during the pandemic that talks about the importance of your morning routine, the Metta Prayer, and patience.
