“This Too Shall Pass…”

Mar 13, 2011

Throughout my years in sales, and certainly in today’s economy, I see entreprenuers from the brand-new to the well-seasoned, stressed and struggling.  They’re asking themselves, “Is all over for me in this business?”  What do I tell them?  Well, my M.O. is normally to remind them that “nothing lasts.”  Which I guess, is really my way of saying, “This Too Shall Pass.” “This too shall pass,” is a great reminder.   No matter how you say it, it boils down to the fact that everything ends; the good, the bad, and everything in between.  For years, I’ve heard the legend from Jewish folklore of King Solomon back in biblical times.  He challenged his trusted minister to find a ring that, “if a happy man looks at it, he becomes sad, and if a sad man looks at it, he becomes happy.”  His minister did find the ring, and its inscription?  “This too shall pass.”

It was echoed again by Abraham Lincoln who, paraphrased the King’s story in 1859 before the Wisconsin State Agricultural Society when he talked about a monarch who sent his wise men to invent a sentence which would be true and appropriate in all times and situations.  They presented him with the words, “This too shall pass.”   It was made also made part of the “scrolls” and a huge part of the message in the late, great, Og Mandino’s bestseller, The Greatest Salesman in the World.

"This too shall pass."  It will.  Everything will. The tough will be tough for a little while, and then it will pass. Learn from it, get creative, fine tune the skills you can, and use it to make you stronger and better than your competition and in your life.  The good will last for a little while, and then it too, shall pass.  Embrace it, celebrate it, learn from it, savor all the moments and count your blessings.  Everything in life is cyclical, so get out of it what

I encourage you to accept whatever comes your way and stay positive, energetic, enthusiastic and focused, not just during the good but the bad times as well, because after all, remember--this too shall pass.
